Da Nang, the capital city of Central Vietnam, is set to resume direct air services to Ahmedabad, India, in October and expand its connections to China in 2025. The municipal Department of Tourism announced on Tuesday that flights to Ahmedabad will restart on Wednesday, catering to the headquarters of major Indian firms investing in Vietnam. Additionally, Da Nang will launch direct flights to China's Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou next year, enhancing connectivity with two of the world's most populous nations.

The reopening of these air routes is expected to significantly increase the number of tourists visiting Da Nang, which is projected to serve approximately 10.3 million tourists in 2024, including 4.2 million international travelers—well above the peak of 8.7 million visitors recorded in 2019. The city has seen a surge in arrivals from India, Australia, Russia, and Taiwan, driven by efforts to diversify its tourism source markets. South Korea remains Da Nang’s largest source market, accounting for over 41 percent of international tourist arrivals, followed by Taiwan, Thailand, China, India, and Japan.

Looking ahead to 2025, Da Nang plans to resume multiple direct air services to India’s New Delhi and Mumbai, Japan’s Nagoya and Osaka, and Qatar’s Doha. The city also aims to open new air routes to Australia and Indonesia, further expanding its global reach. Cao Tri Dung, chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, highlighted that the reopening of direct routes to India is expected to boost Indian tourist arrivals. To accommodate the growing number of international visitors, Da Nang has been enhancing its infrastructure and expanding eateries to better serve large numbers of tourists from India and other countries.
