Discounted Cable Car Tickets Boost Tourism on Cat Ba Island

Visitor Numbers Surge as Ticket Prices Halved to 50,000 VND
The number of visitors using the sea-crossing cable car service to explore Cat Ba Island off Hai Phong City reached a new high of over 5,300 on Sunday, following a 50 percent reduction in ticket prices by the service operator, Cat Ba Sun Company.

Cat Ba Sun Company halved the ticket price to 50,000 Vietnamese Dong (2 United States Dollars) per person per ride, with the discount valid until August 31. For passengers with sizable baggage, an additional fee equal to the ticket price is charged.

The discount led to a significant shift from the hour-long ferry service to the faster cable car option, reducing ferry passenger overload. Many travel agencies have also started offering free cable car tickets for tour bookings to Cat Ba.

From May 25 to June 2, the number of cable car passengers surged to over 20,400, a 326 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Pham Minh Toan, a visitor from Thai Binh Province, praised the time-saving and convenient cable car service, highlighting the stunning aerial views of Hai Phong.

The Cat Hai – Phu Long cable car, spanning 3,955 meters of sea, was launched in June 2020 as part of the Cat Ba cable car system by Sun Group. The system, costing over 2.2 trillion Vietnamese Dong (86 million United States Dollars), features 60 cars, each carrying 30 passengers, with a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour.
