More than 7.7 percent of married couples of childbearing age in Vietnam are facing infertility or sterility, with approximately two million couples struggling to conceive, according to a study by the Ministry of Health.

Infertility refers to the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse, while sterility means being physically unable to have a child even with medical intervention. Causes are evenly distributed between men and women, with 40 percent of cases attributed to men, 40 percent to women, and the remaining 20 percent to both partners or unknown factors.

Medical experts highlight that environmental conditions and lifestyle choices are contributing significantly to rising infertility rates. Dr. Tran Van Thuan of Gia Dinh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City emphasized the importance of early treatment, particularly given that a woman’s age can heavily influence the success of medical intervention. Recent advances in reproductive technology offer new hope, significantly increasing the chances of conception for affected couples.
