Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line Begins Final Trial Phase
Route set to ease traffic congestion and promote public transit.
The final trial phase of Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line No. 1, connecting Ben Thanh Market to Suoi Tien Theme Park, runs from December 13 to 21, with 200 train trips operating daily. The 19-kilometer route aims to address the city’s traffic woes and promote public transport use.
Trains will run daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., completing the journey in under 30 minutes. During peak hours, trains will depart every eight minutes, while off-peak intervals will be 12 minutes. The VND43.7-trillion project features 17 trains capable of carrying up to 930 passengers each, with stations designed to enhance urban mobility.
To encourage adoption, ticket prices will be fully subsidized during the first 30 days of commercial operation. Regular fares will range from VND6,000 to VND20,000, while monthly passes will cost VND300,000 for general passengers and VND150,000 for students. This final test phase is a key milestone in transforming the city’s public transport landscape.
