Laos and Vietnam Commemorate 75th Anniversary of Volunteer Soldiers' Day

Ceremony in Xiengkhouang Province honors shared history and strengthens bilateral ties
A solemn ceremony was held in the northern Lao province of Xiengkhouang on October 24 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnam’s volunteer soldiers and experts in Laos (October 30, 1949 – 2024). Organized by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang and the Xiengkhouang Military Command, the event celebrated the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Vietnamese Consul General Kieu Thi Hang Phuc highlighted the significance of the occasion, emphasizing the invaluable contributions of Vietnam’s volunteer soldiers and experts in Laos. She underscored the importance of educating younger generations about the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation that bind Vietnam and Laos. "Applying historical lessons, particularly from the experiences of our volunteer soldiers and experts, plays a crucial role in strengthening the bond between our parties, governments, and peoples," she stated.

Deputy Secretary of the Xiengkhouang Party Committee, Bounhom Thedthany, expressed deep gratitude to Vietnam for its substantial support during Laos’ struggle for independence and ongoing national development. He pledged to uphold the legacy of the volunteer soldiers as an inspiration for future generations, promoting political and ideological education to strengthen the ever-growing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Vietnamese Consul General presented educational supplies to local students, encouraging them to pursue their studies and contribute to the development of their homeland while fostering the special bond between Laos and Vietnam. Earlier, Vietnamese and Lao delegations offered incense and flowers at the Laos-Vietnam combat alliance monument and memorial shrine for heroes in Xiengkhouang.
