Massive Fish Die-Off in Hanoi's West Lake

In Hanoi's Tay Ho District, over five metric tons of dead fish have been removed from the iconic West Lake, blanketing the area with a foul odor. The mass die-off began in mid-October and is attributed to seasonal changes, a recurring annual issue in the area. Local authorities are actively working to remove the carcasses and prevent future occurrences.

Over five metric tons of dead fish have been collected from the lake, which is bordered by Trich Sai, Nguyen Dinh Thi, and Thanh Nien Streets.

The phenomenon began in mid-October and is blamed on seasonal changes, common to the area annually.

Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company workers have been actively removing the carcasses daily.

District authorities, led by Nguyen Dinh Khuyen, are seeking measures to prevent future occurrences, as similar incidents happened last year in August and later in October and November.
