A fire at Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap Province, caused by careless handling of flames by trespassers, broke out on Tuesday, June 11. Local police are currently investigating the incident.

The management unit of the park reported that two small fires were initially spotted in the A1 area of the park, which quickly spread due to strong winds. The flames grew and invaded nearby gardens, endangering over 100 families.

Around 250 people, along with various firefighting equipment, were deployed to battle the flames. By 5 p.m., the fire was brought under control. However, the blaze had already damaged 20 hectares of acacia forest and several gardens.

Tram Chim National Park, spanning 7,500 hectares, is home to several rare bird species, including the Burmese Sarus flying crane. The park has seen a decline in the population of these birds, and Dong Thap authorities are working on projects to recover their numbers.

Trespassing is a persistent issue at the park, with people often entering illegally to raise cattle and hunt for animals and plants. Despite several measures employed by the park's management unit, the problem continues.
