Nghe An to Construct $2.15 Billion LNG Power Plant

Nghe An, a northern-central province in Vietnam, plans to build a $2.15 billion liquefied natural gas power plant, covering sixty hectares of land and one hundred fifty hectares of water surface. The plant will import over one million one hundred fifty thousand tons of LNG yearly to produce one thousand five hundred megawatts of power and is part of Vietnam's National Power Development Plan VIII. Expected investment procedures will finish by mid-2025, enhancing national energy security through increased LNG power capacity.
Nghe An, located in northern-central Vietnam, is set to develop a $2.15 billion power plant powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The project, allocated 210 hectares in Dong Minh and Dong Thanh villages, includes 60 hectares of land and 150 hectares of water surface.

It will feature a gas power station, an LNG port accommodating ships weighing up to one hundred fifty thousand deadweight tons, and a regasification facility.

Designed to import approximately one million one hundred fifty thousand tons of LNG annually, the plant aims to generate one thousand five hundred megawatts across two units.

Approved by the Nghe An People's Council and prioritized under Vietnam's National Power Development Plan VIII, the plant is a significant step toward enhancing national energy security.

Authorities target completion of investment procedures by mid-2025, followed by a tender to select an investor.

This initiative falls under the electric development plan led by Decision No. 500/QD-TTg, aiming to bolster Vietnam's LNG power capacity to twenty-two thousand four hundred megawatts by 2050.
