Nokia and VNPT Partner to Deploy 5G Technology in Vietnam

Collaboration aims to accelerate Vietnam's digital transformation with advanced 5G infrastructure
Finnish telecom giant Nokia Corporation and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) have announced a new partnership to deploy 5G technology across Vietnam. This collaboration reinforces their long-standing relationship and commitment to providing robust digital infrastructure in the country. Nokia will supply equipment from its advanced 5G AirScale portfolio, powered by energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, to enhance connectivity, reduce latency, and improve network capacity.

VNPT's CEO, Huynh Quang Liem, stated that the partnership with Nokia will enable VNPT to rapidly deploy a world-class 5G network to meet the growing demands of Vietnamese customers. "5G will serve as the foundation that will drive Vietnam’s economic development and societal progress, thereby accelerating its journey toward becoming a digital economy," Liem said. Nokia's president of mobile networks, Tommi Uitto, expressed pride in being VNPT's strategic partner in introducing 5G, emphasizing the company's role in driving innovation and facilitating digital transformation in Vietnam.

As part of the agreement, Nokia is also manufacturing its 5G products locally in Vietnam, strengthening its commitment to the region. VNPT plans to complete the installation of over 3,000 5G transmission stations by the end of 2024 to ensure strong, stable, and continuous coverage, especially in urban areas and economic hubs. VinaPhone, VNPT's mobile subsidiary, is currently offering free 5G network access to users in various provinces and cities where 5G coverage is available.
