Quảng Nam to Host UN Tourism Conference on Rural Development in December

International conference to promote rural tourism and enhance Vietnam’s global image
The central coastal province of Quảng Nam is set to host the UN Tourism’s first Conference on Tourism for Rural Development on December 10, 2024. The conference, which will bring together approximately 300 delegates, including government officials, international organizations, and tourism stakeholders, aims to promote rural tourism and highlight Vietnam’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Hồ An Phong emphasized that the event would boost Vietnam’s global image and foster sustainable tourism development in rural areas.

Discussions during the conference will cover a range of topics, including policies to foster rural tourism, empowering local communities, and developing innovative tourism products. Delegates will also focus on sustainable sector development, ensuring equitable benefits, job creation, and protection of natural and cultural resources. From December 9 to 11, Quảng Nam will host several related events, including the second annual meeting of UN Tourism’s Best-Tourism-Village network and cultural exhibitions showcasing the province’s rural destinations.

UN Tourism, which has 160 official members and over 500 affiliates, aims to use tourism as a tool for economic growth, sustainable development, and environmental protection. Vietnam, a member since 1981, is poised to benefit from increased attention on its rural tourism offerings during the conference.
