Vietnam has achieved a significant milestone in global internet rankings, entering the world’s top 40 for speed, according to a report by Ookla Speedtest.

In December 2024, Vietnam’s mobile internet download speed reached 86.96 megabits per second, marking a sixty percent increase from September and pushing the country up seven places to thirty-seventh in the global ranking. Fixed broadband speeds also improved, reaching 159.32 megabits per second, placing Vietnam in thirty-fifth position worldwide.

These advancements mean Vietnam now surpasses global averages, with mobile and broadband speeds exceeding 62.79 and 96.45 megabits per second, respectively. The United Arab Emirates leads in mobile internet at 453.87 megabits per second, while Singapore tops broadband speeds at 330.98 megabits per second.

With a national goal to expand fifth generation mobile network coverage across all provinces, high-tech zones, and industrial hubs by 2025, Vietnam is positioning itself as a digital leader in Southeast Asia. By 2030, fifth generation mobile network coverage is expected to reach ninety-nine percent of the population.
