In the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam continued its trend of exporting skilled laborers, with over 35,900 workers dispatched under contracts, as reported by the Department of Overseas Labor. Although this figure shows a slight decrease from last year, Vietnam remains a key player in the global labor market.

Japan and Taiwan (China) retained their positions as primary destinations for Vietnamese workers, with other significant markets including the Republic of Korea (RoK), China, and Singapore. Last year's total of over 159,000 workers sent abroad surpassed expectations, marking the highest recorded number in the past decade.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) is actively engaged in expanding opportunities for Vietnamese workers, aiming to send 125,000 laborers overseas in 2024. Key focuses include traditional markets such as Japan, Taiwan (China), and the RoK. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance support for workers through non-profit programs and negotiation initiatives with partner countries like the RoK, Germany, and Australia.

Recent governmental directives emphasize the importance of leadership in overseeing overseas employment, outlining strategies to ensure legal compliance and effective coordination mechanisms. With an estimated 120,000-143,000 workers expected to be employed abroad annually, Vietnam anticipates total remittances of around US$3.5-4 billion, highlighting the significant contributions of overseas labor to the country's economy and workforce development.
