During a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on September 24, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam sought the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) support in restructuring the country’s economy. Lam requested assistance to advance Vietnam’s growth model through digital transformation, green initiatives, and the adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Vietnam, currently one of the world’s top 40 economies, is aiming to achieve high-income status by 2045. The IMF’s Georgieva reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s reforms and risk management. She also praised the nation’s economic achievements, encouraging it to share these experiences with developing regions such as Africa.

Lam’s U.S. visit included a speech at the UN General Assembly, where he urged global cooperation to promote peace and sustainable development, emphasizing the role of multilateral institutions like the UN and ASEAN.
