Several streets and homes in Thao Dien Ward, Ho Chi Minh City’s largest expat community, were inundated with waist-high water after a heavy rainstorm on Tuesday afternoon. Flooding reached half a meter on Quoc Huong Street, causing vehicles to stall and residents to wade through the water. In nearby districts like Binh Thanh, trash clogged drains, worsening the flooding situation.

Residents struggled to clear debris from drains and used barriers to protect homes. Huynh Chi Hung, a long-time resident of Thu Duc City, described the ongoing flooding issues, noting that it usually takes hours for the water to drain. The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center attributed the heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning to high-altitude wind disturbances and warned of continued rain in the coming days.

Traffic was severely affected, with congestion stretching from the Saigon Bridge to the Hang Xanh intersection. Vehicles were stuck in traffic jams for hours, further complicating the situation as emergency services struggled to navigate the flooded streets.
