A new report ranks Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong alongside top global cities for innovation, education, and talent development.
Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong have been ranked among the top 10 innovation cities globally, according to a new report on sci-tech innovation.
The report, published on Friday, was compiled by the Shenzhen International Science and Technology Information Center, the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance of Tsinghua University, and Elsevier, a research publishing and information analytics company.
It evaluates 30 cities worldwide based on a collaborative development index of education, sci-tech, and talent.
The top 10 innovation cities are Boston, San Francisco, Beijing, London, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.
The report provides an in-depth analysis of global urban innovation, showcasing each city’s strengths in science and technology.
In the education sector, Boston, London, and Hong Kong were recognized as the top three cities.
London, Beijing, Shanghai, and New York stood out for their balanced development in both basic and higher education.
San Francisco, Boston, and Beijing led the rankings in terms of innovation.
The report also highlights the importance of strengthening the innovation ecosystem, emphasizing economic foundation, industry-academia research integration, scientific infrastructure, and cross-regional cooperation for cities to boost innovation capabilities.
In terms of talent development, the United States and China are represented by five cities each in the top 10, with Beijing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai demonstrating significant talent potential.
Chinese cities like Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shanghai are noted for their impressive performance in talent development, reflecting a strong momentum in fostering innovation.
