Hong Kong Anticipates Over 1.4 Million Mainland Visitors for Chinese New Year

HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee announces expected influx of tourists for upcoming holiday celebrations, with various events planned.
Hong Kong is set to receive over 1.4 million visitors from mainland China during the upcoming eight-day Chinese New Year holiday, according to HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee.

The holiday, which will run from January 28 to February 4, is expected to bring a daily increase in tourism, with a 3 percent rise compared to the National Day holiday and a 14 percent increase from the previous New Year period.

To mark the celebrations, Hong Kong will host a range of events, including an international parade on January 29, a fireworks display on January 30, horse racing on January 31, and a New Year Cup football match on February 1. Additionally, the city will debut its locally born giant panda twins on February 15, marking the occasion with a naming ceremony.

Lee also mentioned that the HKSAR government has established a working group, led by Chief Secretary Eric Chan, to coordinate the festival arrangements and ensure a smooth experience for both residents and visitors.
