Rescued Javan Pangolin Among 28 Animals Released Back into the Wild in Vietnam
The endangered pangolin was found at a Ho Chi Minh City school and rehabilitated before its release.
A 4.5-kilogram Javan pangolin, discovered at Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School in Ho Chi Minh City, was among 28 wild animals released into U Minh Thuong National Park in Kien Giang Province on December 27.
The endangered pangolin, along with species such as otters, pythons, and turtles, was rehabilitated at the city's wildlife rescue station before being returned to the wild. Most of the animals were voluntarily handed over by residents. Additionally, 15 animals from five species, including Siamese crocodiles and elongated tortoises, were transferred to the national park for conservation purposes.
The principal of Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School expressed joy upon hearing of the pangolin's successful release and emphasized continued efforts in wildlife education for students and parents. Forest rangers are optimistic that U Minh Thuong National Park will provide a safe haven for these animals, supporting biodiversity conservation.
