The General Department of Taxation has directed 100 local banks and payment intermediaries to declare and pay taxes on behalf of Agoda, Airbnb, Booking, and PayPal, as these companies have not registered for tax payments in Vietnam.

Despite operating in Vietnam for over a decade and generating trillions of Vietnamese dong in revenue, these foreign firms remain non-compliant. Vietnam's online tax portal, launched in 2022, has helped major global companies like Google, Meta, and Apple fulfill tax obligations, contributing more than 8.6 trillion Vietnamese dong in 2024—a 26 percent increase from 2023.

Tax authorities continue advancing digital transformation and tightening tax regulations, especially for foreign suppliers and e-commerce platforms, to ensure compliance and boost state revenue.
