A woman in Thua Thien-Hue Province is suing the local Thua Thien-Hue Lottery Government company after it refused to honor her VND2 billion ($78,794) grand prize, claiming the ticket was torn. The woman purchased two lottery tickets on October 13, which became damaged after being drenched in rain. She maintains that despite the damage, the ticket numbers remained visible and confirmed it as the winner for the grand prize.

The dispute began when the woman went to claim her prize. The lottery company acknowledged the tickets but insisted that the police verify them before issuing any prize money. After the verification was completed, the woman was awarded the VND50 million prize but was denied the VND2 billion prize due to the torn condition of the ticket. The company cited the Ministry of Finance's regulations, which state that winning tickets must remain in their original condition.

The woman, who argues the damage was unintentional, has taken the case to the Hue People’s Court, where the legal proceedings will determine whether she is entitled to the grand prize despite the ticket’s condition.
