Vietnam to Support Semiconductor and AI Projects with Up to 50% Initial Investment Funding

New decree aims to attract global tech giants and boost innovation.
Vietnam’s government has enacted Decree 182, allowing up to 50 percent support for initial investment costs in semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) research and development (R&D) projects.

Eligible businesses must have no outstanding tax or budget debts, and their projects must align with national priorities, fostering technological innovation and contributing to Vietnam's high-tech ecosystem. Each R&D project requires a minimum investment capital of 3 trillion Vietnamese dong, with at least 1 trillion disbursed within three years of approval.

Beyond semiconductor and AI initiatives, high-tech enterprises, product manufacturers, and advanced tech investors can also receive general support for workforce training, R&D expenses, and infrastructure development.

The Investment Support Fund, managed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, will oversee the allocation of financial aid from the state budget and other legal resources.

The decree addresses missed opportunities from global corporations that previously bypassed Vietnam due to unclear regulatory frameworks. With these new measures, Vietnam aims to attract significant high-tech investments and solidify its position in the global technology landscape.
