Hanoi Experiences Worst Flooding in 20 Years as Red River Surpasses Critical Levels

Thousands evacuated as floodwaters submerge homes and disrupt daily life
Hanoi has endured its most severe flooding in two decades, with the Red River rising to over 11 meters, leaving thousands of residents stranded and reliant on emergency aid. The flooding, which began after heavy rains from Typhoon Yagi, has submerged entire villages, such as An Lac in Soc Son District, isolating over 1,000 households. Residents have resorted to boats to navigate their flooded streets, while many have evacuated to safer locations.

In Phuc Tan Ward, Hoan Kiem District, the situation worsened as floodwaters entered homes and submerged parks. Authorities evacuated hundreds of families and set up temporary shelters to house displaced residents. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned of further rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, complicating relief efforts.

Despite the devastating flooding, local authorities have been swift in their response, organizing evacuations and deploying relief teams. As water levels remain dangerously high, Hanoi continues to brace for further challenges in the aftermath of the storm.
