Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications has postponed the shutdown of the 2G mobile network to October 15, from the initially scheduled date of September 16. This decision comes in response to the impacts of Typhoon Yagi, aiming to ensure uninterrupted communication services during the aftermath of the natural disaster.

Under existing regulations, 2G services on certain frequency bands were set to cease this month, affecting 2G-only devices. However, due to the severe weather impacts, telecom companies recommended the delay. Approximately 1.8 million 2G-only subscribers still need to transition to higher services, and the postponement allows additional time for this process.

The Ministry emphasized that this delay does not alter the strategic goal of stopping the 2G service. Instead, it aims to maintain communications during challenging times while continuing the transition to more advanced mobile technologies in the country.
