Vietnam and Laos Issue Joint Statement After High-Level Visit

Leaders from both nations reaffirm their commitment to strengthening ties and promoting regional stability.
Vietnam and Laos have issued a joint statement following the state visit of General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, to Vietnam from September 10-13. During his visit, Thongloun engaged in discussions with Vietnamese leaders, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, focusing on enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The joint statement emphasized the strategic importance of Vietnam-Laos relations, founded by Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane, and Souphanouvong. The leaders committed to deepening political relations, enhancing economic and cultural cooperation, and fostering connectivity between their economies. They also agreed on the necessity of collaborating on international and regional issues, including those related to the East Sea and the sustainable use of the Mekong River’s water resources. The visit concluded with both sides expressing a desire to continue nurturing this special relationship for the benefit of their nations and the region.
