Việt Nam Pushes for Green Innovation in Agriculture to Combat Climate Change

Experts discuss the need for a market-driven approach to promote sustainable farming
Việt Nam is aiming to promote green innovation in agriculture by establishing flexible market mechanisms to support the development of environmentally friendly agricultural products, according to Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc. At a conference held in Hà Nội on September 17, experts highlighted the urgency of adapting the sector, which faces significant challenges such as climate change.

With agriculture contributing 12 percent to Việt Nam's GDP and employing about 30 percent of the workforce, sustainable practices are crucial. Green technologies, including smart greenhouse systems and renewable energy, are already helping reduce carbon emissions and improve yields. However, experts pointed out that Việt Nam still lacks trained human resources and access to green technologies.

Participants also discussed how financial incentives, carbon credit certification, and market mechanisms could provide the necessary support for farmers to adopt low-emission farming techniques. Achieving Việt Nam’s goal of net zero emissions by 2050 will require further investment in green innovation.
