Việt Nam Railway Corporation Suffers US$7.3 Million in Damages from Typhoon Yagi

Rail Infrastructure and Operations Severely Affected by Typhoon
Việt Nam Railway Corporation (VNR) has reported approximately 180 billion Vietnamese Đồng (7.3 million US Dollars) in damages due to Typhoon Yagi. The typhoon caused significant damage to state-invested rail infrastructure assets, estimated at around 130 billion Vietnamese Đồng (5.4 million US Dollars), with landslides burying tracks and roadbeds washed away. Additionally, company-invested assets, including locomotives and equipment, suffered losses of 48 billion Vietnamese Đồng (1.93 million US Dollars).

The railway sector also experienced a revenue loss of 28 billion Vietnamese Đồng (1.1 million US Dollars) due to the cancellation of 22 freight and over 54 passenger trains. In response, VNR has been working urgently to repair the damage and restore operations. The corporation is also requesting government support for repair works and proposing tax reductions to aid in recovery.
