Ho Chi Minh City Seeks Enhanced Cooperation with Laos
Secretary Nguyen Van Nen and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith discuss strengthening ties and support for Typhoon Yagi victims.
Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Nguyen Van Nen, met with the visiting General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, on September 12. Nen expressed his hope that the Lao leader will continue encouraging Lao localities to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam’s southern economic hub.
Nen congratulated the Lao Party, State, and people on their recent achievements, which have elevated the country's international standing. He also briefed President Thongloun on Ho Chi Minh City's socio-economic progress and thanked Laos for its support throughout the city's development. The Secretary emphasized the city’s commitment to implementing agreements between the two nations, particularly in trade, tourism, investment, agriculture, human resources training, and cultural exchange.
President Thongloun praised Ho Chi Minh City's economic growth and social security efforts, expressing confidence in the city's future successes. He underscored Laos' dedication to its relationship with Vietnam and expressed his intention to guide Lao ministries and localities to work closely with Ho Chi Minh City in executing mutual agreements.
On the same day, President Thongloun attended a ceremony organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to support victims of Typhoon Yagi. The event raised over 58 billion Vietnamese Dong in cash and 6.29 billion Vietnamese Dong in kind from various organizations, agencies, and individuals.
