Vietnam Takes Action to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions Amid Climate Challenges
Country strengthens climate policies to meet net-zero emissions by 2050
As climate change poses increasing threats, Vietnam is stepping up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A signatory to international climate agreements like the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol, Vietnam has committed to phasing out ozone-depleting substances. The 2020 Law on Environmental Protection introduced new regulations to enhance the country’s climate change response.
In June, the Prime Minister issued a national plan to manage and phase out greenhouse gases, expanding the number of facilities required to report emissions. These facilities now account for 30% of the nation’s total emissions. The plan aligns with Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, helping the country meet its international commitments under the Paris Agreement.
This initiative is supported by municipal and provincial authorities, as well as relevant ministries, as Vietnam works toward a low-carbon, sustainable future.
