Flood Warnings Issued in Laos as Mekong River Surges After Typhoon Yagi

Rising river levels threaten northern provinces as severe weather continues
Laos’s weather agency has issued flood warnings after days of heavy rains caused the Mekong River and its tributaries to swell, threatening northern provinces. The Mekong River in Luang Prabang has surpassed the danger level, reaching 19.02 meters on September 12. Warnings have also been issued for Oudomxay, Xayaboury, and Pakxan districts, where authorities are urging residents in low-lying areas to move belongings to safer ground.

In neighboring Thailand, 36 provinces, including Bangkok, are also at risk of flash floods. Meanwhile, in Myanmar, heavy rains have caused severe flooding, with at least 17 people reported dead in Mandalay due to Typhoon Yagi’s impact.
